In rural Pennsylvania Ranger Gordon (Gary LeBlanc), sees what he thinks is a meteor racing across the sky. He goes to investigate. It turns out that the meteor is really a spaceship and the ranger is killed and eaten by small silver alien creatures.
At the same time, Derek (Jon McBride) and Bennett (John Polonia) are getting photographic evidence of a recent flood that swept through the area. The guys are on a road trip and decide to camp instead of getting a room at a motel in order to save money. Derek needs batteries for his camera and Bennett needs gas for the car, so they decide to find a gas station.
At the station Bennett meets a local girl, Michelle (Melissa Torpy) and sets up a double date with her and her friend, Donna (Maria Davis), for later that evening. On their way back the guys accidentally run over a fisherman that had been attacked by one of the aliens. They put the injured man in their car and take him into town to the office of the local doctor (Sebastian Barran) where he dies. In town other aliens begin killing and eating the residents.
The guys head back to the woods to set up their campsite. In the woods they come face to face with the aliens. Pursued by the silver creatures, they hide out at an abandoned house. The house is attacked by an alien spaceship and Bennett is kidnapped, brought aboard the spaceship, and experimented on. The aliens then create a Bennett clone (Mark Polonia). The aliens send both Bennett and Bennett clone back to Earth where Derek must figure out who is his friend and who is the alien.
“Feeders” was released in 1996 and was directed by Jon McBride, John Polonia and Mark Polonia. It is an American independent direct to video low budget science fiction horror film.
The movie was shot in July of 1994 in about four days with a budget of $500. The creators of this silly nonsense are twin brothers, John and Mark Polonia. Released the same time as “Independence Day”, the brothers managed to fill about 68 minutes with aluminum foil aliens chasing two guys running around the woods. Yes, that is the plot.
It’s just a bunch of video nerds having fun. Acting, dialogue, and all production values were promptly chucked out the window. Even the music score is canned. The Polonia brothers specialize in really bad horror and sci-fi straight to video films. What they lack in polish and talent they make up for in enthusiasm. After John died in 2008 Mark continued to create “B” and “Z” grade films. The team was well known for their SOV films and have garnered a cult following.
There are some actual gore and blood throughout the film, but it is cheap effects, so it looks more camp than creepy. The aliens look like tin foil hats with eyes. (I believe they were actually stockings sprayed with latex.) The photographs that Derek takes in the film are black and white stills from some random flood. All of the really bad effects just add to the enjoyment of the film. My only real complaint about it is how drawn out and slow some of the scenes are. The movie could have been less than an hour long if the filmmakers had done away with some of the padding. Like most of the Polonia films, you either hate it because it is bad, or love it because it is bad.
