After killing a bunch of people, serial killer and Satan worshiper, Devlon (Jose Gomez Parcero) is shot by police, and his body is taken to the morgue. Devlon had been in an asylum under the care of Dr. Cardan (Hugo Stiglitz). Cardan believes that Devlon, even in death, possesses immense evil power. He tries to convince the local sheriff, Captain Ancira (Raul Meraz), that Devlon’s body must be cremated immediately. The captain refuses to do so without a court order and there are no judges available at night to grant it.
Oscar (Rene Cardona III), Jorge (Servando Manzetti) and Pedro (Andres Garcia) want to spend Halloween having sex with their girlfriends. They tell the girls, Lena (Erika Buenfil), Olivia (Edna Bolkan) and Mariana (Jacqueline Castro) that they want to take them to a fancy party at a mansion. The girls believe them. Instead, the guys take them to an abandoned mansion at the edge of a cemetery. The girls are not happy but try to make the most of it.
While wandering around the mansion Jorge finds a large black book of satanic rituals. He thinks that if they perform one of the rituals that the girls will be so scared that they will fall into their arms for protection. Jorge decides that to make the ritual seem authentic that they need a dead body. They all head to the local morgue. The body they choose ends up being the body of Devlon. Back at the cemetery they perform the ritual. When a violent storm erupts, everybody gets scared and runs back to the mansion. They are unaware that the ritual worked and that Devlon, as well as every other corpse in the cemetery, has been brought back to life. Devlon shuffles off to the mansion to wreak some havoc on the unsuspecting young people.
In the meantime, some young children from the neighborhood, Tony (Edwardo Capetillo), Usi (Usi Velasco), Cesar (Cesar Velasco), Anita (Maria Rebeca) and Raul (Cesar Adrian Sanchez), have been out trick-or-treating when they decide to go to the cemetery to test their courage. In the cemetery the kids scare themselves and run away only to get lost in the vast cemetery. Their troubles multiply when they are attacked by the former residents of the cemetery. Eventually they end up at the abandoned mansion and find real horror.
“Cemetery of Terror” AKA “Cementerio del terror” was released in 1985 and was directed by Ruben Galindo Jr. It is a Mexican supernatural slasher film and one of many cemetery black mass movies. It is a Mexican movie that was filmed in Texas.
This is really standard stuff but there is a lot of action and some decent zombies. A bit cheesy but a lot of fun. As with other Mexican horror films there is some copying, rip-off, homage, or whatever you want to call it with themes and sub-genres from other horror films. There is some fun in seeing a potpourri of every horror movie style ever conceived in one film. The filmmakers also manage to add a bit of a twist to the end. It’s nothing legendary but it was decent enough.
Fans of Mexican movie legend Hugo Stiglitz will also enjoy it.
