Learning that his father (Charles Meredith) is dying, James Haney (Peter Miller) returns to the family farm looking for his inheritance. His mother, Emma (Katherine Squire), is happy that he is home, but his brother, John Haney Jr. (Lee Farr), not so much. When James left ten years ago, he stole the family savings. Now he is broke and looking to cash in on his father’s death.
After their father’s funeral everyone assembles as the family attorney, Jonas Atterbury (Boris Karloff), reads the will. The will states that everything goes to the oldest son, John. Jamie then produces his own will stating that he is to inherit everything. Looking at the two wills Atterbury determines that Jamie’s will is the most recent one.
Jamie kicks John out of the house and puts the farm on the market to sell. He plans on sending his mother to visit her sister for a while and then put her into a retirement home when she returns. John is outraged and knows that his father would never have allowed this to happen. He enlists Atterbury to try to break the will. When it looks as if Jamie may win the case, the deceased John Sr. makes sure that his wishes are met.
“Genesis” is the seventh episode created for the anthology series “The Veil”. It is one of 4 episodes compiled for the feature film "Jack the Ripper". The other films in the feature length film were "Jack the Ripper", "Food on the Table" and "Summer Heat".
Although it is similar to your basic Cain vs Able tale, this was nice little story. None of the stories are really Earth shatteringly original and they aren’t really supposed to be. The series was supposedly based on real reports of supernatural events and unexplained phenomena.
