Mara (Lila Zaborin) with her right-hand man, Toruqe (William Bagdad) is a witch that has a coven of women who do human sacrifices and perform black magic. Lorraine (Leslie McRay), unaware of the human sacrifices, is interested in joining the coven. Her boyfriend Mark (Tom Pace) is skeptical, but she convinces him to join in a séance with Mara. In her séances, Mara invokes other spirits who speak through her.
Mara is approached by a man named Rodannus (Ray Myles). Rodannus is aware of Mara’s talents when it comes to black magic. He hires her to assassinate an ambassador to the United Nations. While the ambassador and Rodannus are at a cocktail party Mara performs her ritual and kills the ambassador, long-distance.
Rodannus realizes that Mara is an incredibly powerful witch and dangerous. He sends his henchman Barth (Paul Wilmoth) to Mara’s estate where he shoots Mara, Toruqe and one of Mara’s She-Devils. In a puff of green smoke Mara comes to life as a black cat. Mara restores life to Toruqe and re-manifests as a woman. She then performs another ritual and kills Rodannus and Barth using black magic.
In the meantime, Lorraine and Mark talk to one of their college professors, Dr. Helsford (Victor Izay), about Mara and her abilities. Mark is not sure that he believes in Mara or in the occult. Helsford becomes suspicious about Mara and comes to the conclusion that the evil witch must be stopped.
“Blood Orgy of the She-Devils” was released in 1973 and was written and directed by Ted V. Mikels. It is a low budget “Z” horror movie.
If you’re hoping to see an orgy, forget it. As for the She-Devils, they come out to do a dance a couple times when the male sacrifice is ready but other than that they are few and far between. There is no sex and no nudity in the film. In addition, there was almost no blood or gore.
As for the film, it had a strange flow to it. There were scenes where people were having visions of previous lives and several subplots that went back and forth. It was almost as if the movie was a string of little vignettes strung together in a loose narrative.
In among the various stories there are racist dialects and lots of ridiculous dialogue. Mikels wrote the script in five days. It wasn’t totally horrendous, but it was pretty bad. On the bright side, you get to see a bishop organize a stoning in someone’s back yard.
Ted Mikels plays the witchfinder.
