The researchers at a genetic research facility have been doing experiments on a fluffy orange tabby cat.  An X-ray of the cat shows that there is something growing inside it.  The experiments have altered the cat’s genetic makeup and created a monster.  The researchers decide to cut open the cat to see what is inside it.  Before they can the cat gets loose and ends up running around the parking garage.  While being hunted the cat mutates.  Inside the cat is a deformed furry creature that kills some of the researchers before escaping through an air vent.

Bobbie (Clare Carey) and Suzanne (Shari Shattuck) are a couple of spring breakers looking for a place to sleep.  They are about to be thrown out of an expensive hotel when they are vouched for by Walter Graham (Alex Cord).  Walter is a rich businessman who has some rather shady aspects of his career, along with his equally shady associates, Mike Harvey (George Kennedy) and Albert (Clu Gulager).  He invites the girls to join him for a party on his yacht.   Walter and his cohorts are planning to escape justice by taking the yacht and three million dollars in illegal gains to the Cayman Islands where they have stashed even more money.  Later Walter offers to take the girls along to the Caymans.

The girls run into fellow spring breakers, Martin (Eric Larson), Corey (Rob Estes) and Lance (Beau Dremann) and invite them along on the cruise.  Before they leave, Suzanne finds the cat roaming around the docks and decides to take it with them.  Already on board is Rachel (Toni Hudson), the captain and former owner of the yacht.  Walter had swindled her father out of the yacht and Rachel, still owing Walter money, agreed to run the ship until she can buy it back.

While out at sea the yacht breaks down due to some evil cat shenanigans.  Now stranded in the middle of the ocean, the cat begins killing everyone on board.

“Uninvited” was released in 1988 and was written and directed by Greydon Clark.  It is an American science fiction horror film with some elements of body horror.

A few of the scenes in the film were shot in Director Clark’s garage and swimming pool.  Clark also plays Dr. Greydon, the scientist that gets killed by evil cat.

Many classify the movie as one of the “so bad it’s good” films.  The actual metamorphosis of the cat is silly looking with its puppet inside a puppet “special” effect.  It makes for some unintentional humor.  Much of the effects are underwhelming, especially the cat meows, which are the same two tones repeated over and over again.

There are a couple other effects that didn’t work but the body horror aspects were better than expected.  There is some nice gore and blood that adds some, shall I say dimension, to the mostly bland dialogue.

Suffice it to say, the movie is not good, but it is fun.  The surprising aspect of the movie is that there are actually three well known stars that agreed to do it.  Then again, Clark managed to get quite a few well-known actors to do a lot of his films.
