“Stormy and I are destined to be together.”

Odd Thomas (Anton Yelchin) is a short order cook. And a clairvoyant. And he can see the dead. And speak to them. They don’t talk back. But they tell him what happened. One other thing he sees is bodachs. They show up when something is going wrong. They are harbingers of destruction and feed on pain. And they are here. And only he can stop the apocalypse heading his way.

There is something going on. Something big. Odd sees a guy with bodachs all around him. Lots of them. Odd calls him fungus Bob. He checks out Bob’s house and there are bodachs everywhere. He tells police chief Wyatt Porter (Willem Dafoe). The sheriff is aware of Odd's abilities, but without proof there is nothing he can do.

Stormy Llewellyn (Addison Timlin) is Odd's girlfriend. She manages an ice cream shop. She is also aware of Odd's abilities and is behind him all the way. She is the one he talks to about his visions. She knows he is destined for good things and encourages him.

Then the sheriff gets shot. Now it’s up to Odd to figure out what it all means. Step by step the clues slowly reveal themselves. But what is going on with the bodachs and why are there so many? How does fungus Bob fit in?

"Odd Thomas" was released in 2013 and was directed by Stephen Sommers. The film is based on a book by Dean Koontz. The book "Odd Thomas" is the first in a series of "Odd Thomas" books.

This is one cool movie. The special effects are outstanding. Just the bodachs alone are terrifying. The story gets more and more intense. And it doesn’t stop. Each turn brings another, and another. Slowly the threads come together. It’s compelling to the very end.

Do not be fooled. It’s not a cutesy little ghost story. And I realize that the book has a lot more in it. It’s difficult to pare down a book enough to fit in a movie’s time allotment. Pretend you never read the book and you will enjoy it.

Anton Yelchin played Pavel Chekov in three "Star Trek" films. Anton died June 19, 2016 at the age of 27.
