You’ve been warned
Layne Vassimer (A. J. Buckley) has inherited a house after the death of his cousin Joe (Stephen Baldwin). Layne and his girlfriend Macy (Callie De Fabry) rustle up a few friends; Stephen (David O'Donnell), Maurice (Ransford Doherty), Iris (Kim Onasch) and Katrina (Michelle Borth) to check out the house. Layne has decided to clean up the place so he can sell it. When they see it for the first time, they find the house is surrounded by a corn field, an electric fence and covered in iron plates. It looks like a crappy fortress.
In the corn field they find crop circles. In the house they find tapes containing rantings by cousin Joe about aliens. They learn that Joe believes he is being systematically attacked by these aliens. He says that the aliens are allergic to iron. When strange things start to happen and people start disappearing, the group is not so quick to dismiss cousin Joe's ranting as that of a lunatic.
"Silent Warnings" was released in 2003 and was directed by Christian McIntire. You can’t help but compare “Silent Warnings” to “Signs”. “Signs” was released in 2002 and “Silent Warnings”, of course, in 2003. They both deal with aliens and crop circles in a cornfield next to a bleak farm house in the boonies. Both had good acting and dialogue.
One of the main differences between the two is that “Silent Warnings” was a low budget film made for the SYFY channel and “Signs” was a big box office production.
I am, however, in agreement with some in that, although I liked “Signs”, I liked this movie more. “Silent Warnings” to me was eerier and more intense. It flowed easier from scene to scene. It was also a little shorter so it did not bog down anywhere. The aliens may not have been the best in CGI but that didn’t seem to matter. The story is what made the movie more compelling. To me the overall atmosphere of the movie is what was interesting and kept me on the couch watching. Don’t get me wrong I’m big on monsters and I love creepy creatures but despite the aliens I really liked this movie. You, on the other hand, will have to make your own decision.
