Girl you’re every woman in the world to me.
An alien crashes into earth in what looks like a meteorite. It starts to take over the citizenry of a sleepy little town. It's first victim is Grant Grant (Michael Rooker). The alien shoots some kind of dart-like entity that takes over Grant's brain and takes over his body. The alien uses Grant to create a parasitic nest for other aliens.
Grant visits Brenda Gutierrez (Brenda James) and pretends he wants to cheat on his wife. Brenda is game having tried to seduce Grant the night before. Grant injects Brenda with, who knows what. Suffice it to say that whatever it is it impregnates Brenda, but in a bad way. Brenda is now slated to be the mother of hundreds of slimy little slug-like creatures.
Grant feeds Brenda dogs, cats, raw meat, whatever he can get his hands on to make sure his little bundles of joy are born healthy. Once Brenda is as big as a truck she bursts apart and her progeny squiggle away looking for their own little host to invade. It’s method of possession is by entering a person’s mouth in what looks like a giant slimy sperm. It then takes over the person’s brain and transforms the person into it's very own squiggling slimy tentacle waiving zombie creature.
Caught up in all this alien orgy are Grant's wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks), Police officer Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion), who is sweet on Starla and Bill's friend Kylie Strutemyer (Tania Saulnier). Their only hope is to find a way to stop Grant, the leader of the alien invasion.
“Slither” was released in 2006 and was written and directed by James Gunn. It is both bizarre and gross. Just like James Gunn. He pays homage to gross out horror movies of the 80’s in this thriller. Interspersed are nods to other movies of the genre. Names of characters and streets as well as anecdotes from other movies are peppered throughout.
“Slither” has all the makings of a cult classic. Intertwined with Gross and Gore is humor and yes, a love story. There’s action with a comic flair. The actors are well chosen. The script polished. The special effects top notch.
It is the same concept as “Night of the Creeps” with alien squiggle things taking over people’s brains but with updated CGI from 1986 to 2006. And updated gore. It’s disgusting. Just like it’s meant to be. Loved it.
