Dr. Carlo Marcabienti (Boris Karloff) is an elderly doctor in a small rural village.  His son, Angelo (Tony Travis) is also a doctor.  Angelo is visiting his father and notices that the old man is tired and worn out.  Angelo wants Carlo to retire and move to the city and live with him.  Carlo has always lived in the village and regards the people who live there as his children.  He insists that he couldn’t leave them.

Carlo goes out to visit one of his elderly patients.  While he is out, young Francesca Bianchi (Lauren Perreau) takes ill.  Her mother (Elvira Curci) sends her son Toni (Domenick Delgarde) to fetch Dr. Carlo.  When Toni gets to the Marcabienti home Carlo is still out.  Angelo says that he will come and attend to Francesca.

When he gets to the Bianchi home Francesca’s father (Ernest Sarracino) refuses to let Angelo operate on the little girl.  He insists on waiting for Carlo.  Angelo tries to get Bianchi to understand that if he doesn’t operate right away, his daughter will die.

“The Doctors” is the fifth episode created for the anthology series “The Veil”.  It is one of 4 episodes compiled for the feature film "The Veil".  The other episodes in the compilation were "The Crystal Ball", "Summer Heat", and "Vision of Crime".

This was one of my favorite episodes.  It was charming and warm but had a nice, intriguing ending.  It was different than what I was expecting.

The 10 episode series was eventually retitled as “Tales of the Unexplained: From Behind the Veil” and released on DVD by Shout Factory.
