On a hot summer evening, Edward Page (Harry Bartell) comes home from work to his one room apartment. While heating soup on his hot plate he looks out his window to the apartment building across the way. He sees a man break into the apartment and begin robbing the place. A pretty blond woman (Vici Raaf) comes out of another room and notices her purse is open. She sees her wallet is missing. She then sees her jewelry box is partially open. When she goes to examine it, the burglar comes out from behind a chair and kills her. In a panic Edward races to get the police.
When Lt. Davis (Paul Bryar) and Sgt. Fenton (Ray Montgomery) investigate they find that the apartment where Edward saw the crime happen is empty. The superintendent says that it has been empty for a month. There is no blond and there is no murder, but Edward is adamant about what he says he saw. Edward is sent to Bellevue Hospital to be examined. For a few days he is under the care of Dr. Mason (Boris Karloff). Mason can find nothing wrong with Page and recommends that he be released.
In the meantime, the pretty blond woman rents the empty apartment and moves in.
“Summer Heat” is the ninth episode created for the anthology series “The Veil”. It is one of 4 episodes compiled for the feature film "The Veil". The other episodes in the compilation were "The Doctors", "The Crystal Ball", and "Vision of Crime".
A bit of “Rear Window” 1954 and a bit of “The Boston Strangler” 1968 this episode adds a little precognition to the mix and makes an enjoyable entry to the series.
