Rama Mukerjee (Julius Johnson) visits the home of Madam Naidu (Iphigenie Castiglioni) to ask for her daughter’s hand in marriage. Madame Naidu tells Rama that her daughter, Santha (Lee Torrance), believes that she is the reincarnation of a woman named Sita Vernoy. Sita lived in a small town in India and was married to Armand Vernoy (Jean Del Val). Sita died after her baby was born. A year and ten days later Santha was born. As Santha grows, she remembers more and more about her previous life. When she remembers the name of her husband, she decides she must go to him. Her mother and Rama go with her.
At the Vernoy home Santha sees her son, Krishna (George Hamilton), who is now grown. Of course, Krishna doesn’t believe her. When she sees Armand, he too can’t believe that she is the reincarnation of his dead wife. As they talk, she reveals things to him that only he and Sita knew. Although Vernoy is amazed at what Santha knows, he remains unconvinced that this child is his long-lost wife. At least until she reveals something that only Sita knew and that would change Armand’s and Krishna’s lives forever.
“The Return of Madame Vernoy” is the tenth episode created for the anthology series “The Veil”. It is one of 4 episodes compiled for the feature film “Destination Nightmare”. The other episodes were "Whatever Happened to Peggy", “Destination Nightmare” and “Girl on the Road”.
The plot for this episode deals in reincarnation and is similar to a real-life story about a young girl named Shanti Devi who believed she was the reincarnation of a woman named Lugdi Devi who died in October 1925. Shanti was born in December 1926.
