An amateur film crew is working in a remote area making a film about a giant snake. The film is over budget and the actors are not very good. One of the crew finds some real snake eggs that he thinks might be good to use as props for the film. The director tells him to leave the eggs alone but he takes some anyway.
Unbeknownst to the crew, the eggs belong to a species of giant python, and she wants her eggs back. The python attacks the actors and the crew. The actors run away but the film crew decide to continue the shoot. While trying to decide how to do that with no actors, they are chased by the python. The crew ends up trapped in an abandoned village. With nothing left to lose, they decide to finish the film by filming what could be their own death scene.
After losing a couple of their companions to the snake, they begin to get the better of it only to have it leave and come back with another snake.
“Monster Python” AKA “Monty Python” was released in 2018 and was written and directed by Dicai Zhang. It is a Chinese horror comedy. The copy I have is badly dubbed into English.
I’m not sure if the comedy is intentional or that the movie is so lame that the camp is ever present. The beginning of the film is actually intense and violent but then the beginning credits run and the ridiculously bad acting starts. In the middle it is more like a farce. When the snake shows up there is lots of running, lots of screaming with some bad CGI and some equally bad snake puppets. It’s not the snakes that are the problem, it is the actors. The film is not very long but it seems as if it were going on forever.
The movie’s production values, and CGI are on par with the quality of films done by the Syfy channel. That being said there is still some entertainment value to the film. If you are a fan of giant snakes, no matter the quality, it can be fun. At the end of the film is a little ‘making of’ vignette, that is also dubbed into English that was probably slightly more entertaining than the film itself.
