Philbrick (Robert Ball) and Penn (Frank Ray Perilli) are privates stationed at Fort Nicholson Army base. The two are basically screw-ups under the authority of Colonel Thomas Awol (Mark Ferris), who is also a little screwy himself. The sergeant (Trustin Howard) tells them that Colonel Awol wants to see them in his office. Philbrick, Penn, the Sergeant and a few other men are sent on a top-secret mission. Two weeks earlier there was a huge explosion in the desert from testing a nuclear device. Now that the dust has settled the Army finds that the explosion opened up a cave entrance. The Army sends the group out to investigate the cavern.
Philbrick and Penn are stationed at the mouth of the cave to watch the equipment as the sergeant and the rest of the men enter. While in the cave the soldiers are attacked by alien vegetable men and put in suspended animation. Philbrick and Penn also end up captured by the vegetable men and are brought to two alien women who are in charge, Professor Tanga (Dolores Reed) and Dr. Puna (Joanne Arnold). The guys find themselves in an alien base being questioned by the two Amazonian looking women.
Tanga and Puna come from a planet called Kalar. Their planet is overpopulated, and they were sent to find another planet to invade and dominate. They have been stuck on Earth trying to make repairs to their spaceship. Once the ship is ready, they will go back to Kalar and start the invasion. Philbrick and Penn realize that it is up to them to find a way to stop the aliens.
“Invasion of the Star Creatures” was released in 1962 and was directed by Bruno VeSota. It is an American low budget “B” science fiction comedy movie.
The movie is basically stupid and comparable to a Three Stooges or Marx Brothers film. It is a string of silly skits, lame jokes, pratfalls, and dumbed down humor, not to mention some racist tropes. If you are in the mood for some dim-witted comedy, for whatever reason, this will fill the bill. To me, the carrot monsters were the best part of the movie.
Blatant in the film, besides the racism, is the sexism. The only women in the film are the sexy alien Amazons. For some reason these two women can operate a spaceship and travel millions of miles to Earth (in high heels) but then have their mental acuity get short circuited by a kiss from an Earth idiot.
The movie was written by Jonathan Haze. He is best known for his role as Seymour Krelborn in “Little Shop of Horrors” 1960.
In 1979, the movie was nominated for a “Turkey Award” by Harry and Michael Medved in the category for “The Worst Vegetable Movie of All Time”.
